This SIA Close Protection Course is designed to prepare individuals for a professional career in the private security industry as a licensed Close Protection Officer. Prerequisites:
To enrol in this course, you are required to hold a valid Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (FAW) or equivalent. This certification must be obtained prior to the start of the course and should have at least 12 months remaining before expiry.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Over the duration of 18 days, this course will equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge to operate as a Close Protection Officer (CPO). The course content is divided into multiple units, covering both theoretical and practical aspects of close protection work.
COURSE OVERVIEW
Unit 1: Roles and Responsibilities of a Close Protection Operative
- Understanding the role of a Close Protection Operative (CPO) in the private security industry.
- Learning about the legal framework and regulations governing the industry.
- Risk and threat assessment methodologies and how to apply them in various environments.
- Conducting security surveys and planning security strategies for various operational environments.
Unit 2: Conflict Management
- Techniques for identifying, managing, and resolving conflict.
- De-escalation techniques to handle potentially volatile situations.
- Managing aggressive behavior while maintaining safety for the principal and the CPO team.
- Communication strategies and interpersonal skills to avoid conflict escalation.
Unit 3: Operational Planning and Surveillance
- Learning how to create comprehensive security plans, including route selection, reconnaissance, and contingency planning.
- Vehicle operations, including motorcade driving and advanced vehicle maneuvering.
- Surveillance awareness and counter-surveillance techniques, ensuring you can detect, deter, and respond to surveillance threats.
Unit 4: Physical Intervention Skills
- Non-violent intervention techniques to minimise risk and harm.
- Physical intervention techniques that comply with legal and operational guidelines.
- Training in how to manage and extract the principal from high-risk environments while maintaining the safety of the entire security team.
- Teamwork and coordination in physical intervention scenarios, ensuring seamless execution in high-pressure situations.
Unit 5: Close Protection in Hostile Environments (HECPO)
- An introduction to working in hostile environments, including training in weapon awareness and casualty extraction.
- Explosive device awareness (IED/EFP) and mine awareness.
- Understanding the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other gear commonly required in hostile environments.
